Model-actress Tasha de Vasconcelos

Tasha de Vasconcelos is a model-turned-actress with an interesting upbringing.

Born in Mozambique, then a Portuguese colony, in 1966, she and her family were forced to flee to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) when Communist guerillas successfully drove the Portuguese out of the country and established Mozambique as an independent Marxist state.  The rise of Robert Mugabe as the first (and for the longest time, only) president of Zimbabwe in 1980 forced Tasha's family to move to Canada.

Tasha de Vasconcelos was discovered by a modeling agent in 1985 and became a top model for fashion houses such as Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Dolce & Gabbana.

Eventually, like many models, she decided she wanted to act.  Starting out small with a role in the 1998 French movie Riches, belles etc., she attended acting schools in London and Los Angeles before doing television work in Britain at the turn of the millennium She played Lauren in five episodes of the British comedy series "Perfect World."  She later appeared in the British spy comedy Johnny English (2003), playing a countess. Her American credits include a role in a 2001 TV-movie remake of Murder On the Orient Express, aired on CBS.

Tasha de Vasconcelos has mostly worked as an actress in Europe, though, and her body of work (I actually hate that term) includes a role in the French 2008 TV movie Une suite pour deux and a role in a London production of Tennessee Williams' Camino Real.

Now living in Monaco, Tasha de Vasconcelos is deeply involved in humanitarian causes, working to help fight against AIDS global poverty, as well as being involved with women's rights and the environment.
