Actress Heida Reed

Heida Reed may be the hottest Icelandic sensation since Björk.

Born Heida Rún Sigurðardóttir (her surname is Icelandic for "daughter of Sigurðard"; I understand it's a tradition in Iceland for fathers, and sometimes mothers. to bestow their first names as surnames for their children) in Reykjavik, Heida Reed modeled in Iceland and even in India before going to London to study acting.  Her studies led to her role in "Poldark," the popular British series set in the waning years of the eighteenth century and revolving about a British veteran of the American War of Independence - Captain Poldark - returning home and trying to get his affairs in order.  Ms. Reed played Elizabeth, a childhood sweetheart of Poldark's who later got engage to his cousin.

Ms. Reed has also done theater in Britain, having played Maia in Albert Camus' Cross Purpose and having also played Judith in Dawn King's Foxfinder.  But her dream is to play the title role in Strindberg's Miss Julie.  "She's feisty, complex . . . and Scandinavian," she says of the character.
