In 1966, the year of the Beatles' last tour, Cary Grant's last movie, and Ronald Reagan's unexpected election to the governorship of California, an eighteen-year-old Swedish girl named Margareta Arvidsson was crowned Miss Universe in Miami Beach.
And like many beauty queens - such as Alda Balestra, Miss Italy 1970 - Ms. Arvidsson made the transition to a modeling career. She came back to America to work as a model under the Ford agency in Manhattan.
Eventually, like many models - think of Susan Blakely or Famke Janssen - Ms. Arvidsson made a transition to acting. She appeared not only in films, but also on the stage, including a stint as Diana in a 1984 touring production of the musical Nine, which was based on the Fellini movie 8 1⁄2 .
