The Beauty of Sport, Part Six: Sydney McLaughlin

Sydney McLaughlin is either a runner who knows how to jump or a jumper who knows how to run.

The native New Jerseyan is a track and field star who specializes in the hurdles - the 400-meter race, specifically,  She first made the U.S. Olympic team in 2016 but finished fifth in a heat and failed to advance to the finals.

Things were different as she made her way toward the Tokyo Olympics.  Ms. McLaughlin honed her abilities, ultimately winning the gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

When she got to Tokyo, she mot only won the 400-meter hurdles, she set an Olympic and world record - 51.46 seconds. She also won the gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles relay race.

And I'm sure Sydney McLaughlin, 22 year of age at this writing, is not done yet.

Fun fact: Sydney McLaughlin's father is Willie McLaughlin, a semi-finalist in the 400-meter race at the 1984 U.S. Olympic Trials.
