The Beauty of Song, Part Eight: Rory Block

Rory Block is a blues guitarist and singer from Princeton, New Jersey who is very popular in the blues scene.

She has mostly recorded on small labels, so that may explain why you may not have heard of her before.

Ms. Block's various albums, such as 1981's High Heeled Blues (produced by former Lovin' Spoonful frontman John Sebastian) and 1983's Blue Horizon, offer a mix of original songs, traditional blues numbers, and blues standards from the genre's biggest stars.  Her 2006 album, The Lady and Mr. Johnson, is comprised entirely of Robert Johnson covers.

Her most recent album as of this writing, Prove It On Me, was released in 2020 on Stony Plain Records.
