The Beauty of Song, Part Eight: Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves is part of the new generation of female country singer-songwriters.

She's authentic enough - she hails from Texas - and she cites bluegrass Allison Krauss as an influence.  She's performed with her as well as with another famous Texan - Willie Nelson.

Ms, Musgraves has written songs that express politically progressive values such as acceptance of non-heterosexuals, recreational marijuana, and agnosticism. She denies being a rebel despite pushing the buttons of many a country music fan.  "The things I'm singing about are not controversial to me, I don't push buttons to push buttons. I talk about things that have made an impression on me that a lot of people everywhere are going through."

And I just wish more rockers (of both sexes) would follow a similar lead, given how much trouble rock is in these days.

Her songs include "Blowin' Smoke," about a struggling waitress, and "Dime Store Cowgirl," about life on the road.  Her three studio albums -  the cleverly titled debut Same Trailer Different Park from 2013, 2015's Pageant Material and 2018's Golden Hour (the title is a reference to her hometown of Golden, Texas) all hit number one on the Billboard country album chart.

Kasey Musgraves turns 33 years of age in August 2021.  She has a lot more to offer in the future.
