The Beauty of Song, Part Eight: Emmylou Harris

Emmylou Harris is nothing short of a legend in folk and country music.

Ms. Harris grew up in the South and absorbed the rich musical traditions of the region.  She was more or less discovered by Chris Hillman when he was in the Flying Burrito Brothers, and he got her to collaborate with his former bandmate Gram Parsons.  She and Parsons had a fruitful collaboration, which produced the album Grievous Angel, released after Parsons' death.

Ms. Harris would go on to make successful albums such as 1975's Elite Hotel and 1977's Luxury Liner, as well as hit country singles as "Sweet Dreams" and Two Bottles of Wine." Her LPs include covers of songs such as Bob Dylan's "I'll Be Your Baby Tonight," Fred Neil's "Everybody's Talkin'," and two Beatles songs from Revolver, "Here, There and Everywhere" and "For No One."  She's also made a pair of acclaimed collaborations with Linda Ronstadt and Dolly Parton as well as a collaborative album with Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler (called All the Roadrunning), which produced the 2006 single "This Is Us."

While Emmylou Harris has obviously gone gray, her music is still evergreen. And so is she. 😊
