The Arizona-born Ms. Valletta was one of the most ubiquitous cover girls of the nineties, appearing on the covers of numerous fashion magazines such as the Spanish edition of Elle, the German versions of Cosmopolitan and Glamour, and the U.S. editions of Allure and Marie Claire. She also modeled for fashion brands such as Valentino, Prada, Michael Kors, Claude Montana, Christian Dior, and Dolce & Gabbana, among others.
It was at the turn of the millennium that Ms. Valletta began to dip her toes in the world of acting. She had a supporting role in the 2000 supernatural horror movie What Lies Beneath, which starred Michelle Pfeiffer (an earlier honoree on this blog) and Harrison Ford, and that same year she would also appear opposite Nicolas Cage in romantic comedy-drama The Family Man, about a stockbroker who ends up in an alternate history of his life.
In 2004, she played Martina in Raising Helen, about a woman who runs a modeling agency and suddenly has to raise her sister's three children when her sister dies in an accident. But it wasn't until the 2005 romantic comedy Hitch, when she played Allegra Cole, a woman who is the object of desire of a man (played by Kevin James!) taking dating lessons from the title character (played by Will Smith) that she played a lead part. Hitch was a big success at the box office.
She's played one numerous roles and including the leading role in the 2007 independent coming-of-age film My Sexiest Year. She played Marina, a top model who develops an interest in a young man living in Miami. She's also had small roles in TV shows such as "Revenge" and "Hot in Cleveland." She continues to model though, having appeared in numerous fashion shows and advertising campaigns.
And why not? Amber Valletta is still a beautiful woman, whether she's posing for a still camera or acting in front of movie camera.
