The Beauty of Dance, Part Eight: Yuko Iseda, Pennsylvania Ballet, Philadelphia, PA

Yuko Iseda is a first soloist for the Pennsylvania Ballet who came to Philadelphia by way of Tokyo.

And several other places.  Her CV includes ballet companies in Amsterdam, Oslo, Barcelona, and Tulsa.

Having trained in both her hometown and in Dresden, Germany, Ms. Iseda joined the Pennsylvania Ballet for the 2016-17  as a corps de ballet member and was promoted to soloist after two seasons.  Among her various roles are Medora in Angel Corella’s Le Corsaire, the title role in Giselle, Nikiya in La Bayadère, and, yes, the Sugar Plum Fairy in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker.

Fin fact: Ms. Iseda is also an accomplished pianist.  She once had to play the piano in the orchestra pit during a performance of Cinderella that she also danced in!
