Keke Palmer became a star in Akeelah and the Bee, about an eleven-year-old girl who enters spelling bees at school and makes it to the national Scripps contest. It was the top feel-good movie of 2006.
Her career really took off when she played the title role in the Nickelodeon sitcom "True Jackson, VP," about a teenager who alters her clothes and catches the attention of the designer of her clothing, who admires her work so much she hires her to be vice president of his fashion company's youth apparel division. The series ran from 2008 to 2011.
Today, Keke Palmer is all grown up, and she demonstrated a penchant for adult roles in the the Epix series "Berlin Station," playing April Lewis, a case worker at the CIA's office in the German capital. That series ended in 2019 after three seasons, but she has since gone on to co-host an ABC-TV talk show with retired football player Michael Strahan and journalist Sara Haines. Now called "Strahan, Sara & Keke," the show is an extension of "Good Morning America."
Keke Palmer is also a singer, having released two albums, including 2007's So Cool. More recently, she played a stripper in the black comedy film Hustlers, starring Jennifer Lopez, an earlier honoree on this blog.
