TV newswoman Valerie Pritchett

Tomorrow's big names in broadcast journalism are today's small-time TV reporters and anchors, the folks who deliver the news in markets small enough for the affiliates of national networks to broadcast on UHF stations.  Valerie Pritchett of WHTM-TV, the ABC affiliate in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania that broadcasts on Channel 27, could be one of those future stars.

She is a reporter for the station and also anchors its 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. newscasts.

And while it's not out of the realm of possibility that Ms. Pritchett may one day become a star ABC correspondent, she's undoubtedly satisfied being a big fish in a small pond. She oversees Val’s Kids,  a project that features children in foster care who seek permanent adoptive homes, through Pennsylvania's Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network.  Her "Val's Kid's" news segment, broadcast on WHTM-TV during the 7:00 P.M,. Wednesday report and the  6:00 P.M. Sunday report, promotes prospective adoptions.

Her service on several boards, including the local United Way and Catholic Charities groups, and Harrisburg's Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art, and her volunteer work for the local American Cancer Society chapter make her even more of a pillar in the community.

If Valerie Pritchett ever does go national, the people of the Harrisburg area will surely (and sorely) miss her.
