Jennifer Westfeldt entered the twenty-first century in an astonishing way.
She wrote and co-produced the 2001 movie Kissing Jessica Stein, about a New York copyeditor (Ms. Westfeldt, in the title role) who experiments with a lesbian romance.
It's a comedy.
She also wrote, produced and directed the 2011 comedy movie Friends with Kids, a movie about two best friends of opposite sexes deciding to have a child together while keeping their relationship platonic to avoid the negative effect children can have on romantic relationships.
Not your conventional actress, she . . .
Her co-star in Friends With Kids was "Mad Men" actor Jon Hamm, with whom she had a relationship for eighteen years beginning in 1997.
