Catherine Deneuve: Icon For All Seasons

Here's a shot of the divine Deneuve (sorry, I couldn't resist the obvious alliteration) at 61. Age has been kind to the elder femme d'etat of cinema francaise. ;-)

The late director Roger Vadim claimed to have discovered Catherine Deneuve, but she had been acting as a girl - long before she began dating him. Their association produced a son and little else, but her appearance in one of his films got her noticed in France. Their tempestuous relationship ended when our heroine accused Vadim of trying to make her another Brigitte Bardot, whom he had discovered and been married to. "No problem," he replied, " I can tell the difference between a diamond and a bottle top!"

Vadim was wrong about Deneuve, of course, but if she were a bottle top, she'd be one made of some tough, durable metal! :-)
