Model Susan Holmes

Susan Holmes is a leading model from the 1990s.

A popular girl in high school and a cheerleader, the Ohio-born Ms. Holmes was discovered by the photographer Marco Glaviano in her adopted hometown of San Diego.   She became a sensation both on the runway and in print ads. As you can gather from the picture above, Yves Saint Laurent was among the many designers she walked the runways for.

Ms. Holmes also worked for Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Valentino, and Chanel, among others and she also did ad campaigns for  Escada, Revlon, Karl Lagerfeld, and others.  She even appeared in television commercials for Peugeot.  (Not that her fellow Americans ever saw them; Peugeot quit the U.S. market in 1991.)

Ms. Holmes is also a designer of swimwear, which befits model who grew up in California.  Her designs have been popular with celebrities. Ms. Holmes began her swimwear design business in 1997.

Fun fact: Her husband is former Guns 'N Roses bassist Duff McKagan.
