Model/actress Christina Hui

If Christina Hui looks familiar to you . . . well, if you're a fan of James Bond movies, then you've likely seen her before.

She was a model working in Paris in the late seventies when she appeared in a Bond flick that was added to the franchise at the last possible minute.  The unexpected success of Star Wars led the James Bond franchise producers to delay the production of For Your Eyes Only, originally planned for a 1979 release, in favor of Moonraker, a space-travel-oriented Bond film based on a 1954 Ian Fleming novel.  (For Your Eyes Only, for the record, was released in 1981, two years after Moonraker.)

The plot of Moonraker revolved around the evil Hugo Drax's diabolical plot to poison the Earth's population to death and from a space station, where the most perfect specimens of each race would live before eventually returning to Earth to repopulate the planet with genetically superior people.  As you can gather, Ms. Hui played the woman of the Mongoloid race (above is Ms. Hui in the movie) who would bear the next generation of her people.

Well, you can't argue with Ms. Hui's physical perfection!  But the movie was still a cautionary tale that warned us of the ethically abhorrent practice of human master breeding.

Moonraker, as you might guess, would become the most commercially successful James Bond movie of all time. earning $210 million at the box office . . . until 1995's GoldenEye surpassed it.  Ms. Hui continued modeling in New York in the 1980s and she eventually went to school and earned a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's in business management at New York University.  Wow! :-D

Today, Christina Hui, now known as Christina Xu, is a registered nurse at Bellevue in New York City and an events promoter on the side.  I wonder if there's anything she can't do.

I was a photographic assistant in NYC during the 1980-90 and knew Christina! At the time she was producing and hosting parties for Brasilians. My friend Tony and I used to photograph the parties for her. She was so much fun and had a terrific laugh. I knew she modeled but she never mentioned she was an actress in Moonraker. I just came across her phone and address info and thought to see if I could relocate her.
