Model Mélissa Doucouré

Mélissa Doucouré is one of many top models from African countries formerly ruled by France who made her name in Paris.

Originally from Mali, which was part of the larger colony of French West Africa, she was born in Bamako, the Malian capital, and went to Paris to study foreign languages at the Sorbonne.  Her own foreign aura, signified by her exotic looks, got her into the city's lucrative fashion business as a model.  Soon she became one of the most sought-after models in town, being represented by the Glamour agency for twelve years.

While no longer a model, Mélissa Doucouré remains active in the Paris social scene (the photograph above is form a society event in 2014), and her daughter, Anissa von Busse, has followed her into the profession.  It looks like Mademoiselle Doucouré's legacy as a French fashion icon is quite secure indeed.
