Brazil has produced many high-profile fashion models. Dalma Callado may have the highest profile of them all.
She began modeling at the age of fifteen and eventually went to France on her own at a time when the Brazilian modeling scene was dominated by blue-eyed blondes.
Her gambit paid off handsomely. She became a favorite of the designer Valentino, and she became a regular on the catwalks in Paris, Milan and New York.
Ms. Callado also became an exclusive model for Christian Dior, and she also found time to strike a pose for Bonwit Teller, the photo below taken from one of the store's ads.
After thirty years away from her homeland, Dalma Callado decided to return to live in Brazil with her son.
