Kristen Welker is originally from the Philadelphia area, and she was a reporter for WCAU-TV, Philadelphia's NBC-TV affiliate, for five years beginning in 2005. Before that, she was a weekend morning anchor at WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island and had been an anchor and reporter at KRCR-TV in Redding, California.
She became an NBC correspondent in 2010.
Kristen Welker comes from a mixed background as the daughter of a white father and a black mother, which accounts for her exotic looks.
