She first gained attention as a cast member on NBC's "Friday Night Lights," a drama about a small-town high school football team. Ms. Kelly played high school student and cheerleader Lyla Garrity, and the New York Times enthusiastically praised her performance, calling it "heartbreaking." She stayed for three seasons.
Among Ms. Kelly's movie roles were as a college freshman with a violently obsessive roommate in 2011's The Roommate. (Leighton Meester, an earlier honoree on this blog, played the title role.) Ms. Kelly also starred in Searching for Sonny, a 2011 comedy/mystery about two film follows two reunited friends who are suspects in a murder mystery that is similar to a play in which they performed back in high school. She also played Jacqueline Kennedy in 2013's The Butler.
Fun fact: Minka Kelly also appeared in the Off Broadway play Love, Loss, and What I Wore with Anne Meara (Ben Stiller's mother).
