Back in April of this year, I showed this profile picture of a model in the March 1973 edition of Glamour magazine, without any clue as to her identity.
She has since been identified as Joyce Walker, who was the first black model to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine. She started out as an actress in the late sixties and the early seventies and ended up modeling by accident, originally as a sideline. Having been a member of the Negro Ensemble Company she later married poet, playwright and former Black Panther Jamal Joseph. With her husband th Harlem-based youth theater company IMPACT Repertory Theatre in 1997, and she has remained active as an artist and as a political activist.
Here's another picture of Ms. Walker from her modeling career.
Thanks to Pia Knigin Buggert for identifying her. 😊
