The year 2023, now half over, will be remembered for many things, but one thing it will be remembered for is the passing of not one but two famous R&B/rock and roll divas . . . one that you know about, and another that you may not have heard of.
Linda Lewis (above) had numerous hits in her native Britain such as "Rock-a-Doodle-Doo" and "Sideway Shuffle" and also performed with Family and with David Bowie as a backup singer. She was also married to Jim Creagan, Family's final bass player (who later played in Steve Harley's and Rod Stewart's bands). She died in May at the age of 72.
And I obviously don't have to explain to you who Tina Turner was. I'll just remind you of her many hit singles both with her ex-husband Ike and on her own - "River Deep, Mountain High," a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Proud Mary," "What's Love Got To Do With It," "Better Be Good To Me," and of course her cover of Bonnie Tyler's "The Best" (often mistakenly referred to as "Simply the Best"). Although they have both passed on, I am featuring pictures of Linda Lewis and Tina Turner in this memorial pst for the simple fact that, even though I featured both of them on my blog, both of those posts were made a long time ago. And these two pictures are better than the ones I originally used.
Henceforth, of course, I will not be featuring Linda Lewis or Tina Turner again. RIP.
