Khoudia Diop is a model from Senegal who's known for her very, very, very dark brown skin tone. They don't call her the "Melanin Goddess" for nothing.
Actually, that nickname was of her own making, but no one would disagree with her - least of all with the "goddess" part.
Ms. Diop was teased as a child for being too dark, and I admit, it sounds completely surreal to be teased while growing up in a West African country for having too dark a skin tone. Ironically, when she moved to Paris at the age of fifteen in 2012, Parisians kept telling her that she should be a model.
When she moved to New York a few years after to attend college, she started her own Instagram account to promote her look and she obtained 350,000 followers in only a week. This led to several modeling gigs, including an advertising campaign for French cosmetics brand Make Up For Ever, and an even bigger fan base when all was said and done.
Ms. Diop is now worth over $30 million. Melanin isn't the only thing she is rich with. 😃
