The Beauty of Sport, Part Six: Susie O'Neill

Susie O'Neill is an Australian swimmer who, back in the previous century, gave swimming fans Down Under and in the global Irish diaspora something to cheer about.

Called "Madame Butterfly" for her domination of that swim stroke, Ms. O'Neill struck gold in winning the 200-meter butterfly and freestyle races.  As a member of the home team at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, she repeated her success in the 200 free and took silver in the 200 fly. And she took silver in the 4×100-meter medley and the 4x200-meter freestyle races in the process. She is the fourth most victorious female swimmer in Australian history, with 35 Australian titles, eight Olympic medals, and 24 gold medals in major international competitions to her credit.

Today Ms. O'Neill is a swimming commentator in Australian, and she co-hosts the morning talk show "Ash, Luttsy & Susie" with  Ashley Bradnam and David "Luttsy" Lutteral on Nova 106.9, a commercial FM radio station in her hometown of Brisbane - the scheduled site of the 2032 Olympics.
