The Beauty of Song, Part Nine: Jennifer Nettles

Jennifer Nettles is a leading star in contemporary country music.

She formed the group Sugarland with male singer/guitarist Kristian Bush and singer-songwriter Kristen Hall.  Ms. Hall later left, but Ms. Nettles and Bush continued as a duo.  Among Sugarland's hits are "Want To, "Settlin',""All I Want to Do"(not to be confused with the Sheryl Crow song of the same title), "Already Gone" (not to be confused with the Eagles song of the same title), and "It Happens."  All of these songs were number-one hit singles on Billboard's country singles chart.  Sugarland's' albums include their 2004 debut Twice the Speed of Life, 2008's Love On the Inside, and 2010's The Incredible Machine.

Ms. Nettles has also put out solo albums, including her 2014 debut That Girl and her 2016 debut Playing With Fire, but of which where big hits on the Billboard country album chart.  Her most recent album at this writing, 2021's Always Like New, is a collection of Broadway covers.

And as fate would have it, Ms. Nettles is also an actress, having played Dolly Parton's mother in the Parton biopic Coat of Many Colors, broadcast on NBC.  And, in the fall of 2021, Ms. Nettles played the lead role of Jenna in the Broadway musical Waitress.
