Actress/director Mary Neely

Mary Neely is an actress and director working under the radar screen.

Her best-known role is a supporting part in the 2020 movie-musical version of the 1983 comedy Valley Girl, about a San Fernando Valley girl's romance with a punk rocker.  Unfortunately, not too many people saw it, as it was released during the COVID-19 pandemic, so it didn't get much attention.

Mary Neely keeps herself active, though, with directing small films, such as Pink Trailer, a short film about boredom at home, from 2017.

And, during a COVID-19 lockdown, Neely recorded herself, on her cellular phone, singing ballad duets from from  Les Misérables, Grease, and Hamilton, among others.   She sang and played all the parts, male and female, and used different costumes for the characters in her one-woman cyber-show.  Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of Hamilton, was one of many who was impressed.
