Ashley Park is not yet thirty years old, but she's established herself as a Broadway presence whose star continues to rise.
The California-born Ms. Park graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in musical theater, and she was already playing ensemble roles in Pittsburgh productions of Jekyll & Hyde, Love Changes Everything, and The Sound of Music before graduation. She debuted on Broadway in 2014 as a member of the ensemble of Mamma Mia! at the Broadhurst Theatre, but she soon gained the role of Gabrielle in a national touring production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. A star was indeed born.
Subsequent roles on Broadway and in regional theater have included Tuptim in a 2015-16 production of The King and I at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in New York and as Luisa in a production of The Fantasticks at the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, California. More recently, she played Gretchen Wieners in the musical version of the movie Mean Girls, at Broadway's August Wilson Theatre.
And what's on tap for Ashley Park in 2020? She plays the title role of Millie Dillmount in a limited run of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the New York City Center in May, in a production that promises to be redone "with a fresh perspective." :-)
