Actress Brit Marling

Actually, Brit Marling is not just an actress.  She also writes screenplays, and she's been in movies made from them.

Her best-known movies as an actress are two films she co-wrote and co-produced, both from 2011.  In the thriller Sound of My Voice, she played a cult leader being investigated by reporters, while in the sci-fi movie Another Earth, she played a high-school student convicted of causing a fatal car crash and denied the opportunity to go to MIT who becomes fascinated in a parallel Earth where life is the same as on this planet.  She won the Best Actress award from both the San Diego Film Critics Society and the Sitges (Spain) Film Festival for the latter movie.

In 2013, she co-wrote and co-produced The East, a movie in which she played a private investigator assigned to infiltrate an eco-anarchist group to get information about it.

These days, Ms. Marling stars in "The OA," a supernatural/sci-fi Netflix series.  Despite her work as a screenwriter, she enjoys working in movies with scripts she didn't have a hand in writing .  As she explained, "I get a lot more pleasure in acting in other people's stories . . . one of the great pleasures of acting is surrendering to someone else's point of view of the world."
