Eiza González is a young Mexican actress who has made the transition from telenovelas to Hollywood.
She first got noticed in TV dramas set in Mexico, such as the 2007-08 series "Lola, érase una vez" ("Lola, Once Upon a Time") about a plucky but poor Mexican girl fighting to get out of poverty, and the 2011 series "Sueña Conmigo" ("Dream With Me"), in which she played Clara Molina, a girl who wants to be a singer and invents the persona "Roxy Pop."
Her first Hollywood role as as Monica "Darling" Castello in 2017's romantic/outlaw flick Baby Driver, which led to a role in 2018's Welcome to Marwen, based on the real-life story of Mark Hogancamp (played in the movie by Steve Carell), an artist beaten up by bullies who invests his own world with action figures. Ms. González played Caralala, a coworker of Mark's in a bar.
Though Welcome to Marwen was directed by the esteemed Robert Zemeckis of the Back To the Future trilogy, it was a flop, nixing any hope of Ms. González having a commercial breakthrough in America. She's young yet; she'll be back.
Eiza González is also a singer; she didn't just play one on a telenovela. She's released two Spanish-language albums, Contracorriente from 2009 and Te acordarás de mí from 2012.
