Misty Copeland is only the third black soloist and the first in twenty years with the American Ballet Theatre. She overcame a difficult childhood and an unstable family life to became the rising star of the company.
She joined the American Ballet Theartre's corps de ballet in 2001 and was promoted to soloist six years later. Her rise from obscurity to ballet stardom is an inspiration to young dancers everywhere. :-)
Her performances include the Autumn Fairy in Frederick Ashton's Cinderella, Odalisque in Le Corsaire, the title role in Firebird, the Flower Girl in Gaîté Parisienne, and the peasant pas de deux in Giselle, plus too many others to list.
