Cate Blanchett is one of the most accomplished actresses ever to come from Down Under.
Ms. Blanchett made her international film debut in 1997 as an Australian nurse who is captured by the Japanese in the movie Paradise Road. She broke through in a big way the following year, though, with her role as Queen Elizabeth I of England in Elizabeth.
She played Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese's Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator, and she also portrayed the scandalous, psychologically tormented teacher Sheba Hart in <Notes On a Scandal.
