Her name is Claire Atkinson, and she's British, but there the similarities between her and the Paris-based runway model of the same name end. This Claire Atkinson is a journalist who's now working as NBC News' senior media editor, a position she's held since September 2017.
Ms. Atkinson gained her experience in covering the media as the media reporter for, of all newspapers, the New York Post, where she covered the main media conglomerates and the record business, among other things. Her reporting is less about the product from media companies than the companies themselves, focusing on media mergers and acquisitions.
Ms. Atkinson started out as a freelancer back in Britain, writing for The Express, The Observer, and the British edition of the American magazine Entertainment Weekly, as well as an associate editor for the British edition of MediaWeek. She joined advertising Age in 2002 and went on to write for Variety, Broadcasting & Cable, and The Hollywood Reporter, so she brought to NBC News far more experience that working for a rag like the New York Post would indicate.
