Ana Ortiz is best known for her role as Hilda Suarez in the early-2000s ABC comedy drama "Ugly Betty."
Hilda was the older sister of Betty Suarez, who got a job at a prestigious fashion magazine despite her plain looks. Hilda could be vain, but she always stood by her sister and was protective of the whole Suarez family.
Although being an Hispanic actress has led her to typecasting, Ana Ortiz has made the best of it, garnering praise for her role as a housekeeper in Lifetime's "Devious Maids," about a quartet of Hispanic maids who share and get involved in secrets of the rich and famous people of Beverly Hills that they work for.
Fun fact: Ana Ortiz auditioned for the title role in "Ugly Betty," which of course went to America Ferrera (an earlier honoree on this blog).
